Filmvorführung des Studiengangs Industrial Design: „ODYSSEE 2026. AI, or not AI, that is the question“
Staatliche Akademie der Bildenden Künste Stuttgart, Campus Weißenhof: Neubau 2, Vortragssaal
„ODYSSEE 2026“ is a documentary about an experimental semester project in the Industrial Design Department at ABK Stuttgart.
Five students began with five forgotten or disappearing typologies: a bellows, a well, a sarcophagus, a dressing table and a qulliq – an Inuit oil lamp. Across a series of missions inspired by the Odyssey, each object was questioned, altered and gradually transformed into something new.
Throughout the journey, text, image and object evolved together. The students worked with a wide range of generative AI tools – from text and image to voice and motion and integrated them into a familiar design process of research, drawing, model-making and working in the workshop.
The project was not intended as a demonstration of what AI can do. Instead, it asked how designers might use these new tools without surrendering their own judgement. With each mission, the objects moved further from what they had been and closer to what they might become.
A semester project by Prof. Aylin Langreuter and academic associate David Gebka with students Cosima Zwade, Konrad Elser, Walid Hadidi, Andrei Balaban and Lovis Wolf.
With contributions by Sam Hecht, Nelly Ben Hayoun, Christopher Roth, Gregor Schmalzried, Prof. Dr. Daniel Martin Feige, Prof. Lea Schmidbauer, Klaus Fürmaier and Mike Razniewski.
