Was mich interessiert ist Folgendes:
Es sind die Momente des Dialogs zwischen Designer und Modell im Gestaltungsprozess, die im iterativen Aufeinander – Reagieren zu der Entstehung eines Produkts führen. Diese Momente sind improvisatorischer Natur.
Mit einer designtheoretisch/philosophischen Perspektive möchte ich mich der improvisatorischen Identität nähern. Dies geschieht durch einen theoretischen Einstieg, Interviews mit Improvisationsexperten und einem Essay, wobei ich Improvisation als Tugend des Designers bezeichne.
Mit meinen praktischen Entwürfen haben wir es zum einen mit dem Freien Spiel:Fragments of Aka zu tun. Ziel ist es, Improvisationsmethoden aus den Künsten ins Produktdesign zu übertragen. Ich lasse mich von gefundenen Fragmenten, Reststücken oder Objekten auf dem Gelände der Kunstakademie ansprechen. Diese dienen als Ausgangspunkt für ein offenes, formales Spiel.
Im zweiten Teil meiner praktischen Entwürfe, einer Stromschienensystemerweiterung, untersuche ich, wie improvisatorische Momente im Gestaltungsprozess stattfinden und im fertigen Modell nachhallen.
I´m interested in the moments of dialogue between designer and model that emerge during the design process – those iterative, responsive exchanges that ultimately lead to a product. These moments as inherently improvisational.
Approaching the topic from a design-theoretical and philosophical angle, I explore what could be called an improvisational identity. This takes shape through a theoretical text, interviews with improvisation experts, and an essay framing improvisation as a designers`s virtue.
My practical work begins with Fragments of Aka, a format of free play. Drawing on methods from the arts, I engage with found fragments, offcuts, and objects on the academy grounds as starting points for formal experimentation.
The second part is a more conventional design proposal: a modular extension for track lighting. It serves as a case to trace how improvisation appears within the design process and continues to echo in the final result.
