Ihr herausragendes Talent und außergewöhnlich intellektuelles Verständnis sowie ihre Fähigkeit, durch ihre Wortbeiträge, ihre Haltung und ihre künstlerische Arbeit Diversität in den Studiengang einzubringen, beeindruckte die Jury ganz besonders. „Ludgi Porto teilt nicht nur die Einflüsse der brasilianischen Kunst und Kultur und offenbart ihre politischen Positionen sowie ihren internationalen Hintergrund, sondern konfrontiert ihre Mitstudierenden damit auch auf wertvolle Weise. In gemeinsamen Projekten gelingt es ihr immer wieder, ihre individuelle künstlerische Arbeit mit dem kollektiven Anspruch der Gruppe zu verbinden. Sie ist eine Künstlerin, die Räume mit einer starken politischen und künstlerischen Präsenz besetzt, und zugleich auch eine Studentin, die mit ihrer Praxis und Herangehensweise ihr Umfeld anregt und die intellektuellen Räume des M.F.A.-Studiengangs KTPP relevant erweitert“, urteilte die Jury.

Ludgi Porto, 1989 in São Paulo, Brasilien geboren, absolvierte 2015 den Bachelor in Bildender Kunst an der São Paulo State University (UNESP) und an der Rutgers State University of New Jersey. Von 2016 bis 2017 schloss ein Aufbaustudium in Bildender Kunst an der State University of Campinas in São Paulo (UNICAMP) daran an. 2019 kam Ludgi Porto im Rahmen eines DAAD-Austauschprogramms an die Kunstakademie Münster, um dort ihre künstlerische Arbeit in der Bildhauerei-Klasse von Prof.in Mariana Castillo Deball zu vertiefen. Ein DAAD-Stipendium für ein Masterstudium führte sie 2020 schließlich an die ABK Stuttgart, an der sie seitdem den M.F.A.-Studiengang Körper, Theorie und Poetik des Performativen bei Prof.in Dr. Cristina Gómez Barrio, Prof. Wolfgang Mayer und Prof. Dr. Felix Ensslin belegt. Ludgi Porto zeigte ihre Arbeiten bereits in mehreren internationalen Ausstellungen und nahm an Artist in Residence-Programmen wie 2020 an den „Conditions of a Necessity“ der Kunsthalle Baden-Baden (als Mitwirkende eines Gemeinschaftsprojekts des M.F.A. KTPP) und der „Expedición Cuba“ anlässlich der Havana Biennial in Kuba (2019) teil. Außerdem war Ludgi Porto Gastdozentin unter anderem am Art Institute der São Paulo State University.

In ihrer künstlerischen Praxis geht es Ludgi Porto darum, den gefühlten Körper zu materialisieren. Ihre Performances entstehen aus Körperbewegungen und Gefühlen, die für sie zu losgelösten Skulpturen und Objekten werden. Ludgi Porto beschreibt diese als eine Art Prothese, die sie einerseits als Erweiterung des Körpers und andererseits auch als Spiegel interpretiert. Das Spiel zwischen Nähe und Distanz ist ein wichtiger Bestandteil ihrer Performances. Derzeit arbeitet Ludgi Porto an mehrsprachigen Projekten, die von traditionellen Bildhauertechniken wie Keramik und Gipsguss über Zeichnung und Malerei bis hin zu Musik und Tanz reichen. // https://ludmilaporto.com/ 

Der mit 1.000 Euro dotierte DAAD-Preis wird an der ABK Stuttgart seit 2005 jährlich vom DAAD verliehen. Ausgezeichnet werden ausländische Studierende mit besonderen akademischen Leistungen und bemerkenswertem gesellschaftlich-interkulturellen Engagement. Die Wahl der Preisträger*innen erfolgt in Verantwortung der Hochschule. Mit der Verleihung des DAAD-Preises soll zugleich einer breiteren Öffentlichkeit deutlich gemacht werden, welche Bereicherung ausländische Studierende für die Hochschulgemeinschaft darstellen.

Academy student Ludgi Porto receives DAAD prize

Ludgi Porto from the M.F.A. program “Body, Theory and Poetics of the Performative” at the ABK Stuttgart was awarded the DAAD Prize of the German Academic Exchange Service for her outstanding artistic achievement. Her outstanding talent and exceptional intellectual understanding, as well as her ability to bring diversity to the course through her speech, her attitude and her artistic work, particularly impressed the jury. „Ludgi Porto not only shares the influences of Brazilian art and culture and reveals her political positions as well as her international background, but also confronts her fellow students with them in a valuable way. In collaborative projects, she always manages to combine her individual artistic work with the collective aspirations of the group. She is an artist who occupies spaces with a strong political and artistic presence, and at the same time also a student who stimulates her environment with her practice and approach and relevantly expands the intellectual spaces of the M.F.A. program KTPP", the jury commented.

Ludgi Porto, born in 1989 in São Paulo, Brazil, graduated in 2015 with a Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts at São Paulo State University (UNESP) and Rutgers State University of New Jersey, followed by postgraduate studies in Fine Arts at the State University of Campinas in São Paulo (UNICAMP) from 2016 to 2017. In 2019, Ludgi Porto joined the Kunstakademie Münster as part of a DAAD exchange program to deepen her artistic work in the sculpture class of Prof.in Mariana Castillo Deball. A DAAD scholarship for a Master's degree finally led her to the ABK Stuttgart in 2020, where she has since been taking the M.F.A. course “Body, Theory and Poetics of the Performative” with Prof. Dr. Cristina Gómez Barrio, Prof. Wolfgang Mayer and Prof. Dr. Felix Ensslin. Ludgi Porto has shown her work in several international exhibitions and participated in artist-in-residence programs such as the 2020 „Conditions of a Necessity“ at Kunsthalle Baden-Baden (as a contributor to a collaborative project of M.F.A. KTPP) and the „Expedición Cuba“ on the occasion of the Havana Biennial in Cuba (2019). Ludgi Porto gave lectures as a guest at the Art Institute of São Paulo State University (UNESP), among other Institutions.

In her artistic practice, Ludgi Porto intends to materialize the felt body by making performances with sculptures and objects which are born from body movements and feelings. Ludgi Porto describes these as a kind of prosthesis, which she sees on the one hand as an extension of the body and on the other as a mirror. The play between proximity and distance is an important component of her performances. Ludgi Porto is currently working on projects ranging from traditional sculptural techniques such as ceramics and plaster casting to drawing, painting, music and dance. // https://ludmilaporto.com/

The DAAD Prize, endowed with 1,000 euros, has been awarded annually by the DAAD at the ABK Stuttgart since 2005. The prize is awarded to foreign students with outstanding academic achievements and remarkable social and intercultural commitment. The university is responsible for selecting the award winners. The awarding of the DAAD prize intends to make it clear to a broader public how important international students are for the university community.
