Den populistischen bis extremistischen Tendenzen, deren zunehmend gewalttätige Verbreitung wir mit großer Sorge beobachten, treten wir entschlossen entgegen und erinnern daran, offensiv für jene Werte einzustehen, die wir auch in unserem Leitbild formuliert haben: „Die ABK Stuttgart steht für Interdisziplinarität, für Diversität und für Weltoffenheit.“ Wir stehen für eine demokratische freie Gesellschaft und freie Meinungsäußerung ein.

Unsere Besorgnis wird durch die Tatsache verstärkt, dass der gesellschaftlich sensible Bereich von Kunst und Kultur oft zuerst von einschränkender Einflussnahme betroffen ist. Wir sind davon überzeugt, dass die staatlichen Institutionen unter den gegenwärtigen Umständen nachdrücklich zu ihrer demokratischen Integrität stehen müssen, indem sie der Vielfalt künstlerischer Positionen ein offenes und sicheres Forum bieten. Eine solche Haltung und ein dieser demokratischen Pluralität entsprechendes Vermittlungsangebot ist ein wesentlicher Bestandteil respektvoller gesellschaftlich-kultureller Dialoge und stärkt so eine Diskussionsfähigkeit, ohne die eine Demokratie nicht leben kann.

Die freiheitliche Lehre unserer Bildungseinrichtungen ist ein hohes Gut. Als multidisziplinäre Institution mit Studierenden aus der ganzen Welt tragen wir alle gemeinsam Verantwortung dafür, unseren Studierenden und Lehrenden einen sicheren Ort für eine freie Praxis und einen offenen, respektvollen Dialog zu bieten. Unterschiedliche Disziplinen und Stimmen sind an der ABK vereint, ihre Vielfalt unter einem Dach ist wichtig und gewollt und muss erhalten bleiben. Nicht nur im Sinne einer demokratischen „Freiheit der Kunst“ verwahren wir uns gegen jegliche Formen von Ausgrenzung und Diskriminierung, Rassismus und Antisemitismus. Auch über den Campus hinaus sehen wir uns gesellschaftlich verpflichtet: Künstlerische Praxis und Forschung an der ABK stehen in einem globalen Austausch und tragen so zum gegenseitigen menschlichen und kulturellen Verständnis bei.

We resolutely oppose populist and extremist tendencies, whose increasingly violent spread we observe with great concern, and remind you to stand up for the values that we have also formulated in our mission statement: „ABK Stuttgart promotes transdisciplinarity, diversity and cultural openmindedness.“ We advocate for a democratic, free society and freedom of expression.

Our concern is amplified by the fact that the socially sensitive area of art and culture is often the first to be affected by restrictive influence. We are convinced that, under the current circumstances, state institutions must firmly stand by their democratic integrity by providing an open and safe platform for the diversity of artistic positions. Such an attitude and a mediation offer that corresponds to this democratic plurality is an essential component of respectful socio-cultural dialogs and thus strengthens a capacity for discussion without which a democracy cannot live.

The liberal teaching of our educational institutions is a valuable asset. As a multidisciplinary institution with students from all over the world, we all share responsibility for providing our students and teachers with a safe place for free practice and open, respectful dialog. Different disciplines and voices are united at the ABK. Their diversity under one roof is important and desired and must be preserved. We oppose all forms of exclusion and discrimination, racism and antisemitism, and not just in the sense of a democratic „freedom of art“. We also see ourselves as socially committed beyond the campus: Artistic practice and research at the ABK are part of a global exchange and thus contribute to mutual human and cultural understanding.
