Präsentation: „Farewell to I – Archiving through Dissolution“ – Yon Natalie Mik
07.11.2023 | 19:00
Yon Natalie Mik presents „Farewell to I“, a work-in-progress performance lecture that practices an elimination-based process of archiving through dissolution guided by the spirits. Though constrained, Yon’s unstable body remains resilient, acting as a repository of its own losses and challenging societal standards of control, able-bodiedness, and identity. A distinct subjectivity surfaces within this act of withdrawal—endured, fragmented, and unaffirmable. This potent form of self-loss fosters a reimagined expression of ‘I’.
The work culminates in a discussion with the audience that serves as a moment for communal reflection, allowing everyone to engage with the ideas presented and share their own experiences or queries. „Farewell to I“ offers an in-depth exploration of how we remember, how we forget, and how we continue to exist amidst ceaseless changes.
Yon Natalie Mik is a dancer and transdisciplinary artist based in Berlin and Los Angeles. As part of the cooperation fellowship between ABK Stuttgart and Akademie Schloss Solitude, Yon Natalie Mik co-teaches in the M.F.A. Body, Theory and Poetics of the Performative in the winter semester 2023/24 with Prof. Dr. Cristina Gómez Barrio and Prof. Wolfgang Mayer.
For her teaching at the M.F.A. KTPP, she puts forward the proposal for a collaborative practice wherein she and the students can engage in the choreographic writing and archiving of vulnerable, fractured bodies by looking at their personal stories and mapping a social choreography for collective repair and resistance.
