Range of courses
Theoretical knowledge and practical methods relating to typography and type design are taught through a range of courses, workshops and project work.
The curriculum comprises practical projects and accompanying theory in seminars from the first semester onwards, in accordance with the study programme (Communication Design and Textile Design), as well as the ‘Typography’ class project in the second semester of Communication Design, led by Prof. Marcus Wichmann, and the ‘Typeface Design’ class project in the third and fourth semesters, led by Prof. Gerwin Schmidt.
Open projects, workshops and individual project supervision by arrangement; available as an optional module in the main phase of the Textile Design degree programme. During the workshop month, a variety of workshops on typeface design and typographic experiments are held in the analogue typography workshop. The introductory ‘Typography’ courses in the winter semester may also be attended by students from other degree programmes, subject to availability and upon request.
