Book printing workshop
Mon–Fri 9.00–11.45 am and 12.45–4.00 pm
Weißenhof Campus,
Altbau, Room 119
Facilities
The workshop is equipped to accommodate four student workstations (Korrex and Grafix proofing presses).
There are two further workstations for large-format and commercial printing (original Heidelberg platen presses), which may only be used by the lecturer and by students following specific instruction.
Range of courses
The workshop is used by students from all disciplines throughout the year (primarily by students of Communication Design). The workshop tutor is responsible for instructing students in the use of the machinery and, by providing technical support, enabling them to realise and carry out their projects. This results in book projects, monotypes, woodcuts and linocuts, etc.
During the winter term, the workshop mainly offers foundation courses for first-year students of Communication and Textile Design, as well as Art Education.
Topics include: colour, colour behaviour, light, screens and printing techniques. Theory is put into practice through specialised exercises. In addition, Communication Design students undertake in-depth project work to complement the courses, during which they receive advice and guidance.
During the summer term, the workshop primarily supervises and carries out projects for the second term of the Communication Design course. In addition, a seminar followed by an examination is held for Communication Design students. Topics: history of printing, printing processes, digital printing.
Projects from other semesters or degree programmes are carried out by individual arrangement. During the workshop months, there is the opportunity to realise more extensive artistic works.
