Internship
Inhalt
Internships are a valuable addition to your academic education and, in some degree programmes, are a prerequisite for admission to or completion of your degree at the ABK Stuttgart.
Pre-study and mandatory internships
Die Studiengänge, für die Vor- oder Pflichtpraktika erforderlich sind, werden in der Praktikumsverordnung genannt:
The degree programmes for which preparatory or mandatory interships are required are listed in the Internship Regulations:
The decision as to whether an internship is relevant to the student’s degree programme or can be credited as a mandatory internship is usually made by the respective academic departments.
Voluntary internships
In addition, there is the option of undertaking voluntary internships in Germany or abroad, which may also be carried out during the lecture term, provided that they are relevant to your degree programme and your absence is approved by the relevant class representative or programme director.
For voluntary internships lasting at least 3 months, you may apply for a leave of absence for one semester (see Leave of Absence). As a rule, a leave of absence is not granted for mandatory internships, as the internship cannot otherwise be credited to your degree programme.
Insurance cover during an internship
Please check directly with your health insurance provider to find out whether you remain covered by health insurance during your internship in Germany or abroad.
Statutory accident insurance pursuant to Section 2(1) No. 8c of Book VII of the Social Code (SGB VII) does not apply during an internship (including those abroad). Insurance cover extends only to regular lectures and workshop/studio sessions at the ABK, as well as to participation in official university events approved by the university administration, provided these take place within the scope of the university’s educational remit (e.g. approved excursions as part of a course). When taking part in internships, final projects or project work, these conditions are generally not met, even if these are mandatory assignments.
