Experimental openness in artistic practice and a willingness to engage in interdisciplinary dialogue are part of the tradition and vision of what is arguably Stuttgart’s best-known district internationally. Since 1913, the Weißenhof on the Killesberg has not only been the home of the State Academy of Fine Arts, Stuttgart, but has also been synonymous with innovative and pioneering thinking in art, architecture and design. Building on this fundamental principle, the ABK Stuttgart offers the postgraduate programme ‘Weißenhof Programme in Fine Art’ to provide special support for innovative projects and outstanding artists.

Meisterschülerin and/or Meisterschüler on the Weißenhof Fine Arts programme

Contents

The programme, which offers an alternative to the so-called third cycle of study, is aimed at selected, particularly talented artists who wish to pursue a specific project or specialise in a particular area within the programme, and whose most recent degree in the visual arts was awarded no more than three years ago.

The programme aims to bridge the gap between the completion of an art degree and the start of an independent artistic career. Alongside working on their own projects, students are encouraged to organise talks for their group, visits to exhibitions and portfolio reviews with their mentors, in order to gain inspiration for their own project work, contribute to their professional development and facilitate networking within the academic and independent art worlds. Students can also gain additional practical experience in areas such as fundraising, event organisation, public relations and professional catalogue production. It is anticipated that a limited number of teaching placements will be available for students.

Programme Committee

The Programme Committee is responsible for matters relating to the degree programme, such as deciding on admission to the programme or approving project supervisors.
