Regular Students

  • Regular students are students enrolled in a full degree programme (Diplom degree, B.A., M.A. and Doctoral degrees).

In order to study at the ABK Stuttgart, you must be able to present proof of previous studies or a high school graduation certificate equivalent to the German Abitur (High School Certificate of Education – Advanced Level). Before applying for studies, international educational qualifications must be accredited, for more information see here. After submitting an accreditation form and in the case that your qualifications are approved, you will receive an official notification letter, after which you can submit your application.

Applicants who do not have a university entrance qualification, but have sufficient general education qualifications, can take an entrance exam for skilled applicants (Begabtenprüfung). This only applies to the study areas Fine Arts and Stage and Costume Design.

    Application procedure

The application procedure for regular students consists of two stages; completion of the online application form, which must be signed and sent with all other documents, and the submission of all application documents. Application documents in languages other than German or English must be translated by an approved (by law) translator and must be submitted as a certified copy.

    Application documents include:

    • Application form with passport photo
    • CV
    • Authenticated educational qualifications (see here)
    • Text (description of artworks, methods and inspiration)
    • Education certificates (officially translated and official copies)
    • 2 A4 Envelopes (postage paid, with applicants address)
    • Parcel voucher
    • Evidence of work experience, training, internships or previous studies
    • Employment certificate (stating number of working hours) in case of part-time employment
    • Evidence of German language skills (DSH1-Prüfung/Test DAF3/Level B2, for architecture: DSH2-Prüfung/Test DAF4/Level C1)

Applicants will be notified of results per mail approx. 2-3 weeks after the submission of their application. Applicants admitted to entrance examinations must be present on-site.

For detailed information about the application process for regular students, including dates and contact information, please see here.

    International Qualifications Assessment for Studies

International applicants who wish to study in our regular full-time degree programmes that have educational qualifications, equivalent to the German Abitur, must have their educational certificates assessed at the ABK Stuttgart. The general admissions department of the ABK Stuttgart currently assesses educational qualifications for all applicants to Art and Music Universities in the State of Baden-Württemberg.
Please use the online assessment form (pdf) and send it to us per post with a self-addressed and stamped envelope. If you have an Associate or Bachelor's degree, please include official copies of these also.

    Application requirements include:

    • Assessment form (pdf)
    • Qualification certificates/documents (must be official copies, beglaubigte Kopien) which will become the property of the ABK Stuttgart
    • A4 sized stamped and self-addressed (your address) envelope

Documents in other languages must be translated by an officially (by law) recognized translator. The official copies become property of the ABK Stuttgart.
Once your qualification has been assessed, a notice of assessment/Bescheid (in original) of sufficient educational qualifications will be sent to you per post. If you are applying to a study programme at the ABK Stuttgart you must send this notice of assessment/Bescheid along with your application materials.

    Additionally for international applicants:
Applicants that are not German citizens, according to article 116 of basic German law, must provide proof of German language skills, e.g. a certificate of examination in the German language, with at least a pass in a German language examination (DSH1 or Test DaF3 or the level B2, for architecture: DSH2 or Test DaF4 or the level C1).

    Fees

Regular students are required to pay tuition fees (only non EU-foreigners), plus an administration fee per semester. Since the winter semester 2017/2018, the tuition fees for international students (non-EU foreigners) have been EUR 1,500.00 per semester.
